The Partiologist: Chocolate Cherry Scones

Chocolate Cherry Scones

Since I made the chocolate cherry caramel apples last week, I keep thinking of chocolate and cherry and all the other creations that could be made.  So before National Cherry month is over I am going to share one more cherry recipe.  (I'm pretty sure every month is National Chocolate month - so this recipe worked out perfectly.)

Chocolate Cherry Scones

INGREDIENTS
2 cups flour
1/3 cup sugar
2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup chilled butter, cut into pieces
1 egg
2/3 cups whipping cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 cup dried cherries
1 cup chocolate chips
Egg wash (1 egg and 1 teaspoon water, beaten)
Sugar crystals for sprinkling

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven: 325 degrees F.
Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in butter with pastry blender. Combine wet ingredients and mix into dry just until moistened. Add cherries and chocolate chips. Mixture will be very sticky. Turn onto floured surface and knead 4 to 5 times with floured hands. Pat out to 1/2-inch thick circles.  Brush tops with egg wash. Sprinkle tops with sugar crystals. Place on parchment paper and bake for 15 to 18 minutes.  (Adapted slightly from Food Network)

Scones usually scare me, but this time, I enjoyed making them, but not as much as I enjoyed eating them!
I know I didn't post many photos, but I wanted to show you how cute they look on the parchment paper.  I also wanted to tell you that I think I crowded them a little.  FYI - Scones don't like to be crowded.

Cheers To Cherries...And Chocolate!
