The Partiologist: Sprinkle Birthday Cones!

Sprinkle Birthday Cones!

I'm about to say something I never thought I'd have to say...My nephew didn't want cookies for his birthday - SAY WHAT???? What kid doesn't want my cookies?  Well, in my defense, he doesn't even want ANY of his grandma's cookies, he told her he didn't like them probably because of the baking soda...hmm, interesting.

Now on to the more joyous part of the story.  He loved my cake pops.  The cake pops I made with Baby Cakes, really just mini round cake bites dipped in a light sugar frosting.  With that information, I decided to create a sweet little treat for his birthday.

Cake Pops.  Ice Cream Cone Style.

Ooops, they tipped over!  No worries - it's a cake pop covered in petit four glaze and topped with a mini ice cream cone!  I do think he'll love these!

And just in case you know someone who doesn't want cookies - I think you would find that these would be a hit!  Here's how I made them~
Use a regular cake recipe or cake mix and bake according to directions in Baby Cakes.  Oh Joy - I found mini cone cups! (Wally World)
After baking the sweet little round balls, stuff half of the cake balls inside mini cone cup.
Place the other half of cake balls on wax paper.
Make Petit Four Icing.
Pour or spoon icing over cake ball and immediately top with cone.
After the spilled cones are put together, brush a little Karo syrup on icing and sprinkle with sprinkles!
I adapted this recipe from Martha Stewart for the icing.

INGREDIENTS
9 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon clear vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
Gel food coloring, in desired colors

DIRECTIONS
In a heatproof bowl set over (but not touching) simmering water, mix sugar, corn syrup, 1/2 cup water, vanilla and almond extracts together until they are warm, well combined, and smooth. Stir in enough food coloring until desired color is reached. Do not overheat.
Give to the birthday boy and make him smile!
No need to cry over these spilled ice cream cones!

Recently I was introduced to a new website featuring personalized cards - any type of card you can imagine! treat. is a new division of Shutterfly, have you heard of them?  Check them out HERE!

  2. I have been awaiting the arrival of mini cones in the grocery stores. I didn't want to order them on-line for fear they'd all be broken upon arrival. I am going to check out my local Wally World to see if they have them in stock. Fingers crossed!

I hope your nephew loves his special treat:)

  12. These are super cute and I want to make some NOW! I haven't seen mini cones before and judging by the comments they might not be the easiest to find, but I'm sure although not as cute they would still be cute done in little ice cream cups to look like a scoop of melting ice cream..IF I can't find the cones of course.

    Love this idea!
