It's a Buttons & Bowties Baby Shower for Twins!!
When I found out that my niece was expecting twins - Boy AND Girl - I wanted to have a shower for her. How exciting, right? Plus it was a chance to have a dream of mine come true. When my girls were little and I loved shopping for the cute clothes, I thought I should open a little boutique, calling it Buttons and Bowties. Then I realized that I would have to work at the boutique and not just shop at the boutique. That dream was just a dream until now...a Buttons and Bowties baby shower! So I had to incorporate the invitation to include the sign I dreamed of having~
Using a Button for the O and a Bowtie for the W. Pretty impressive huh? Then I added coordinating envelope labels for the addresses~
The paper products are things I always do waaay before the party. Like months before. Except not this time. When we were trying to find a date this summer that would work for everyone in the family, the only date was in one week. ONE WEEK people, I only had one week to prepare for this shower. HELLO - do you know me??? I am happy to report...
it can be done.
Another paper project to complete before the shower was getting the game and prizes ready. And because at this shower there were going to be lots of kids, I had to make lots of prizes. Only one game, but in the end, every kiddo won a prize. You know what kid wants to lose? Just ask me, I always lost and I didn't really like it.
Prizes revealed below...
Now for the game~
It was to guess the number of clothespins in the baby bottle. The one guessing the closest without going over WON! One prize for the winner and another prize for the mom to be. She is carrying twins - you know TWO little people, so she deserves to win no matter what! The adults won some kind of candy coated almonds. The kids had one big winner - the square prize, containing four colored chalk. And prizes for all the other kids - wait for it - two colored chalk in cardboard tubes wrapped in tissue paper!
Because what kid wants to lose?
My plan was to roll out shipping paper in the entryway and let the kids draw with the chalk. You know, entertaining them for hours. Here was my vision, each child sitting on a side of the paper, drawing pretty flowers, houses, trees, etc. In real life, it entertained them for about two minutes - TOPS! But for those two minutes, they were happy. Yep, it's been awhile since my girls were little.
And I just realized that those were very lame prizes. Sorry kids.
Another paper project to finish in advance, is the food labels. Of course you must know what food you are going to make. I made a few extra just in case I changed my mind.
Now you have a sneak peak at what's in store!
And did you notice the buttons with the thread? Click on the photo if you didn't notice!
And one of my very favorite inventions.
I repurposed a lamp shade into a serving pedestal for candy.
Can you still call it repurposing if you bought the lamp shade for this purpose? I think so.
I've been wanting to do this for quite some time and the time was NOW!
Incorporating buttons to keep with the theme, here's how I made it~
Purchased two little lamp shades from Hobby Lobby.
After removing the plastic wrap, there was a white wax paper pattern. I cut another pattern out of white paper, wrapped it around the shade and sealed the back. Then I started hot gluing buttons to the lamp shades. After the lamp shades were complete, Using a Wilton mold, I began making the fondant buttons and added them to the Chocolate Sea Salt Caramels. (Purchased) Now they were ready for the shower.
Baby Oh Baby...
