The Partiologist: If A is for Apple...

If A is for Apple...

If A is for apple, then B is for Bubble Gum, right?  At least at MY back to school party it does. Last year, I found these cute little pens, only they were to be used for sand art, which would be cute, but messy for a party.  Instead, I filled the pens with bright colored gumballs, bagged and tied them up.  (I hope those last few words don't cause alarm to National Security, just in case I'm being monitored.)  Anyway, here they are in all their cuteness.

Bubble Gum Pens

Do you like Bubble Gum Pens?  I see you checked yes and so I'll tell you how I made them.

Being The Partiologist, I have containers of colored gum balls, for what ever party I might need them for.  And today it was pens.  So I sorted out all the same color of gumballs for each pen and just so happened to place them all in the same order.  Hmmm, how lucky that happened!  Then I made a tag so each child at the party could claim their prize pen.

On the dessert table, I had four colored pots holding the pens and three other take home treats.  Another treat being the Bright Colored Licorice.

Yes, I know they're just simple sticks of licorice. Simple licorice sticks in pretzel bags, tied with ribbon and a personalized name tag, I might add!  I made more tags for this party then in any party in the history of The Partiologist.  Kids like things personalized, and it also made it easy to take home!

Now I told you I had four pots, the third pot holds a treat that is about as easy as it gets.  Homemade nerds straws, made by the nerd herself.

Why do you call them Nerd Straws you ask?  Well, you didn't really ask, but here's why, the straws are filled with the little Nerd Candy.  I love straws, they're right up there with gumballs, and I have lots on hand for parties.  I decided to seal the ends and fill them with Nerds.  Like this.

I know there are high tech heat guns for sealing bags and stuff, I'm just not really that into high tech, so I used a mini curling iron.  And it worked.  Okay, I burned my fingers a little each time, but it worked.  I first sealed one end, pressed it on the counter after it was somewhat melted together and then it sealed tight.  Then I used a funnel and poured the nerds into the straw.  After it was filled, I melted the other end together.  And added a tag.

I want each one to know, they ARE the brightest crayon in the box.
The fourth and final pot was holding Star shaped Rice Krispie Treats.  When I was making them, I was thinking that I may not be the brightest Crayon in the box.

Cutting out the star shapes went okay, but getting the striped straw to stay on after the chocolate had hardened was another story.  A story you don't want to hear.  I do know, once they were in the hands of my students, it didn't matter if the straws stayed on.

Just a little FYI - This Back To School party had several treats and these are just a few, so you'll be hearing from me quite often in the next couple of weeks, I hope you don't mind.  Just think of it as a never ending field trip through my classroom...
