The Partiologist: Uncle Sam Cookies!

Uncle Sam Cookies!

You know when you have something in your mind and it works?  Well, I'm happy to report these cookies worked (wish I could say that for the other cookies I made).  Anyway, I wanted to make those cookies that you put together like a puzzle to create a person.
Well, sort of a person, a cookie person.

Uncle Sam!

Totally covered in fondant.

When I started, I had somewhat of an idea, but wasn't sure if I should add the boots.

As you can see, I added the boots, but still not sure if I liked them.

So I took another photo leaving them out and adding fireworks~

The set of cookie cutters were very popular around Christmas, and had to have them.

Only, I didn't have a chance to use them until now!

Pretty simple to make, that is if you have a day to make four cookies.

Remember seeing that set of Christmas Cutter's by Wilton?

I added the heart and then I had my stacked set for the Uncle Sam cookies.

I started with the heart.

Cut out strips of red and white fondant with the No. 3 strip cutter.

Placed each strip of fondant on the cookie and trim the edge with sharp knife.

Roll and emboss a white piece of fondant with stripes.

Using the same heart cutter, cut out a piece for the shirt.

Cut out stars for the buttons and emboss a piece of blue fondant with dots for the lapels.

After finally cutting the right shape for the lapel, I placed one piece of fondant on top of another, so they would be the exact shape.

Mold a red bow using a mold.

Roll out blue fondant and cut the top with the boot cutter.

Trim off the bottom and roll a little larger to fit the cookie.

Do the same with red fondant, cut with the boot cutter and roll it a little bit larger.

Place on the cookie and using a toothpick, press a line down the center of the boots.

Cut white fondant with a No. 2 strip cutter for the stripes.

Add strips of white fondant horizontally across the cookie and press with a toothpick.

Three sizes of stars - I ended up using the smallest star for both the boot and the hat.

HAT?  What?  Looks like I forgot to take photos of the hat.  Or his face.  My bad.

Seriously, does anyone even want to know?

So how do you like your Uncle Sam?  With Boots...

Or without?

  1. Don't you hate when you get so engrossed in the creative process that you forget to take pictures? These cookies are so clever, and more than that, they are so perfectly crafted. They would certainly be the focal point of any food table at a 4th of July party.

    1. Thank you so much! The fondant I used is actually made by Wilton that I purchased. I have made fondant in the past, only I don't feel I have a good recipe for it. Maybe if you Google fondant recipes, you'll find one. Hope this helps!
