The Partiologist: Surprise Inside Graveyard Cake!

Surprise Inside Graveyard Cake!

I really had no intention of making this cake.  At least not until I messed up some chocolate covered Oreo's.  One thing led to another and before you knew it, I had an entire graveyard.

A Graveyard Cake with a surprise inside...

What's the surprise?  BONES of course!
This may be the easiest surprise inside cake you've ever made.

You don't need to bake anything extra to add to the cake.

This is how it started.  I wanted to dip a few Oreo's into candy melts.

Only I kept breaking them, and ended up with little bits of Oreo in the white chocolate.  I did not want to waste the chocolate...

So, I crushed a few more Oreo's added them to the chocolate until it was thick and almost set.  Then I rolled it between two pieces of parchment paper.

Before it was hard, I used a mini tombstone cookie cutter and cut out my own tombstones.

Because I was going to give this cake away, I covered a piece of cardboard with parchment paper to use as the cake plate.

And I gathered up a jar of dem bones.

Quickly, I piped a few designs on the tombstones with black royal icing.

Because it's Halloween and I was feeling a wee bit wicked, I used a Devil's Food Cake mix.  Bake it according to directions.

Then flip it out of the pan.  At this point, I really wanted to eat it, as you can see, I didn't.

Now it's time to bury the bones.

Cut a small piece out of the cake and fill with candy bones.

On top of the bones, I added dirt (crushed OREO's)

Place the little piece of cake on top of the grave.

Now each grave has a little mound and you'll be able to see just wear all the bones are buried.

Mix up green buttercream frosting, fill a pastry bag with the large grass tip and the frosting.

Cover the entire cake with grass, leaving a few spaces open to see the dirt (cake).

Add a tombstone at the top of each grave.

What's on your Tombstone?

No bones about it, it was a good cake!

Bone Appetit!
