The Partiologist: Realistic Football Slice Cookies!

Realistic Football Slice Cookies!

I look for cookie inspiration everywhere and because I like to eat my crafts, I wanted to recreate an idea I found in Oriental Trading.  Not only do they provide some of the best party supplies, they also provide more edible inspiration than I'll ever have the time to create.  I have wanted to make these cookies since the beginning of football season.

Today is the day.

Realistic Football Slice Cookies!

I loved the way I was able to achieve the leather look with fondant and an impression mat.

The key to lacing, is keeping the fondant soft.

Okay team, let's get started.

Roll and cut your sugar cookies with a 5" x 4" rectangle cookie cutter, or hand cut.

Cut the rectangle shaped cookie into two pieces, each piece 5" x 2".

Bake until done.

Use the Makin's impression mat with the football leather design.

Mix a piece of fondant with brown, orange and teensy bit of red until you get the desired football color.

Roll the fondant into a thin piece and then roll the impression mat over the fondant.

Roll over the impression mat over the fondant until the design shows.

Cut the fondant with the same size cookie cutter and then cut in half.

Roll and cut white fondant with a No. 1 Strip cutter.

Place two strips of the fondant across the middle of the leather fondant.

Measure where the ends will be and cut a hole with the top of a round decorating tip.

Thread the two pieces of white fondant into the hole.

Next, using the same No. 1 strip cutter, cut smaller strips.

Using a smaller round tip, cut holes across the leather band to lace the cookie.

Place one end of the fondant into the hole and than the other.

Seal the ends on the back.

After the entire piece of fondant is laced, pipe white buttercream frosting across the back.

Turn the cookie over and place on the frosted piece of fondant.

This way none of the frosting will show beneath the fondant.

And they are the perfect size to slide into a pretzel bag!

I think you'll score with these... it's time to bring your A Game!

  2. holy cow. it's like you took a real football and cut it into slices. only these are MUCH better than real footballs. if i made these, no one would be allowed to eat them cuz i'd have to frame them for sheer coolness alone. :>O

  3. These are great! Made with your usual precision! Years ago, when my daughter played high school basketball, I baked a treat for her team. I made large sugar cookie basketballs with each jersey number frosted. All I had for the texture was a paper towel. That worked, but not as well as this impression mat. I'm happy to know these are made now that I have grandkids who will also play sports!

  8. These are simply amazing! I love how they're just a section of the football and yet they pack a big punch. I searched for anything craft related with a football texture at my local craft stores with no luck, so I especially love your impression mat and how cool on your fondant strip cutter. I didn't even know there was such a thing. These football cookies are a big win!
