The Partiologist: S'more d'oeuvres

S'more d'oeuvres

Normally, an Hor d'oeuvre is a small savory dish, typically one served as an appetizer at the beginning of a meal.  I just couldn't resist serving a sweet bite after the meal, tempting the taste buds to want more, well, S'mores in this case.

There is a love for S'mores like nothing I've ever seen, you can find S'mores in almost any way, shape or form.  I've mentioned before how I like to keep my S'mores neat and tidy, so when this idea came to mind, I knew it was the S'mores for me.

S'more d'oeuves

Now that I've tempted your taste buds, I have a feeling this could be the S'mores for you too!

Of course, in the past all my S'mores have been made with marshmallows.  Now I've made them with toasted marshmallows!  And without a campfire.

Here's how...

Starting with the three basic S'mores ingredients:

Honey Maid Grahams (for this recipe, I used the graham cracker crumbs), Kraft Jet Puffed  marshmallows and of course, Hershey's chocolate bars.

I grabbed my bamboo skewers and soaked them in water for 30 minutes prior to use.

I took each marshmallow and placed it on a bamboo skewer, sliding it on until the tip of the bamboo was showing, making sure the marshmallow was secure.

Turned my gas burner on the lowest setting.  (It was either that or build a camp fire).

Held and carefully turned the marshmallow above the flame until it was toasted.

Once all the marshmallows were toasted, I removed the bamboo skewers.

Melt the Hershey bar in microwave safe bowl at 30 second intervals at half power.  Dip the bottom of each toasted marshmallow in the chocolate.

After dipping the marshmallow in chocolate, dip in the graham cracker crumbs.

Place all of the dipped marshmallows on wax paper.

Fill the top of the marshmallow with another spoon full of chocolate and immediately top with graham cracker crumbs.

Now they're ready to serve your guests.  Or you could eat them all yourself.

I won't say what happened to mine... No one can eat just one!

  1. Whoa - those sure look yummy. You're right - MUST soak bamboo sticks before holding them over the fire so you don't have to fire extinguish your new treats.

These would be easy to pack and bring to a party Who doesn't like toasted marshmallows & chocolate. They're also very attractive. Better make bunch of them as they'll disappear fast.

    1. Well, now you'll have to sing around the gas stove (instead of a campfire), while making the S'mores! Thanks Lisa!
