The Partiologist: Shabby Chic Birthday Party!

Shabby Chic Birthday Party!

Well folks, it's been awhile since I've hosted a party and now it's time to celebrate...

A 50th Birthday!

It's been years of planning and collecting things for this party, when I would see something I thought would work, I grabbed it and packed it away.  When the time came, I started going through everything I had packed away, so many surprises, I felt like it was my birthday.

Before I show you the party,  let's start with the invitations, each hand made with love.  Well, the first ten were made with love and then the last twenty five were just made.  Just kidding.

Shabby Chic Birthday Invitations

After searching for just the right invitation, I found what I wanted, only they were for weddings and needed to be ordered in quantities of 100 and I didn't need that many.

At that moment, I decided to make my own version as best as I could.

I remember showing my daughter the first completed invitation and she looked at me and asked, "You're going to make 35 more of these"?  She must have known something I didn't.

After they were complete, the effort was completely worth it, I loved them and most important, the birthday girl loved them too!

Each invitation was tied with twine and sealed with a little paper rose.

I went on the search for cardstock with designs on both the front and back.

And I wanted the design to have the feeling of "shabby chic" what ever that feeling is.

And each invitation opened to read...

I cut each piece of  12 x 12 cardstock into four pieces with my Cricut.

Then I printed the wording on vellum a bit smaller than the cardstock and cut to size.

Taped each piece of vellum onto the cardstock with washi tape.

I found the perfect box at my favorite box shop BRP boxes.

My invitation fit perfectly and instead of opening the box, it slid open.

They're actually made for macarons, which means I'll have to keep practicing, I have lots of boxes!

Find these little boxes HERE and HERE.

Once the boxes were folded together, I filled the bottom with natural grass.

That was kind of a mess.

When I was working on them, my husband came in the room and asked if I was eating shredded wheat.  That's exactly what it looked like, shredded wheat all over the place.

Hmmm, I wonder if that says something about my eating habits??

Anyway, back to the invitation.

I punched out large scalloped shapes from the cardstock.

Then I cut a piece of the 12 x 12 cardstock into letter size and printed "You're Invited!" as many times as would fit.

Then I punched those out with a smaller scalloped punch.

But did I stop there?

Nope.

I added a clear cellophane bag and tied a name tag to each invitation and hand delivered.

Yep.  That's what I did.

And if the invitation tells you anything about the party...

Well, it's Not Too Shabby!
