The Partiologist: Paint Palette Cookies!

Paint Palette Cookies!

How many of you love to paint?  And I'm not talking walls.  I really wish I was an artist who could paint with oil, watercolors, etc.  I'm not that artist, but my mom is.  And this weekend she was featured at her local art center kicking off a month long exhibit of her paintings.

Paint Palette Cookies!

So to kick off the show, I made cookies. This is my kind of art, the kind you can eat.

How about you?  Do you want to paint on walls or are cookies your kind of canvas?

That's what I thought.

Grab your cookie canvas and let's get started.

Are you ready to dip your brush into a little paint?

Start with paint palette shaped cookies.

Draw a little circle with an edible marker on each cookie.

Flood the cookie with brown royal icing.  Let the cookie dry.

Next, take AmeriColor brown food color and a soft brush.

Mix with a little vodka (not shown) or extract to water it down a bit.

Dip the brush in the brown color, blot on a paper towel and brush back and forth across the cookie, making a woodgrain look.

Add as many blobs of colored icing for the paint.

For the brush, flood the handle with brown food color and let dry.

Repeat the same steps as above with the brown food color.

Add grey icing and paint the icing with edible silver paint.

Use a round piping tip and pipe black lines for the bristles of the brush.

Add more royal icing to the ends of each bristle to make it look like they were dipped in paint.

If you'd like to learn about the art exhibit where my mom's (Virginia) paintings were featured, you can read about it HERE.

Paint the, blue, green, orange, yellow and purple!

  1. What a lucky mom to have such a talented and sweet daughter! I bet she LOVED her cookies. :)

    1. Thank you so much, she did love her cookies! However, I think I am the lucky one!!

  2. Kim, your cookies are a work of art! And how awesome for your Mom to have her own Art exhibit! How cool it would be to have your cookies displayed along with her paintings!

    1. I had so much fun making these, and if it were up to my mom I would have had them displayed at the art show! :)
