The Partiologist: Deer Mounted Cookie!

Deer Mounted Cookie!

I'm not a hunter, but I found this mold so interesting and knew it would be a challenge to use.  I was up for the challenge, only because I knew I could make it work even when it broke over and over.  It's like I won't quit until I get it right and although it didn't ever come out of the mold in one piece, I found a way to fix it.  Good as new.

Deer Mounted Cookie

This is probably the closest thing you'll ever find me hunting.

A chocolate deer.

Can you tell all the antlers had broken off?  Nope, because with a little "chocolate" glue, I fixed them all.

And you can probably see why the antlers broke off every time I removed them from the mold.  Very delicate antlers.

But did that scare me off?  No, quite the opposite, I wanted to make it work and when it didn't I decided to see if I could possibly repair the  broken antlers.

I used different kinds of chocolate before finding the one I liked the best.

This was made with off white candy melts dusted with cocoa powder.

But I think I liked the dark chocolate one the best.

Why?   Dark.  Chocolate.

Oh, and about that wood grain background.  So easy, you'll love me for it.

Let me show you how.

Choose a shape and bake the cookie for the mounting.  I used a shield cookie cutter.

Color white icing with a bit of ivory.  Flood the cookies to the edge and let the cookies dry.

Use brown airbrush color and spray the cookie.  (I took this photo before I totally coated it because I didn't want it to dry out.)

Immediately brush across the cookie with a soft bristle brush.

Make it as dark or as light, with as many brush strokes as you want.

Next, fill the mold with melted chocolate candy melts.  Freeze until solid.

Remove from mold...this is when the antlers kept breaking off.

I added a tiny bit of melted chocolate to stick them back on the deer.

Then paint on the eyes with a tiny paint brush and white chocolate gel color.

Add a bit of icing to the cookie and top with the chocolate deer.

The perfect gift for your favorite hunter!
