The Partiologist: Mini Bridal Dress Cakes!

Mini Bridal Dress Cakes!

Let me tell you, I think it's going to be a whirlwind of events celebrating the upcoming wedding of my daughter.  After she said yes to the dress, it was time for her bridesmaids to choose their dresses.  She invited them to meet at the bridal shop to select their dress, then go to her place for dinner and dessert.  Guess who made dessert?

Mini Bridal Dress Cakes!

And of course, it wasn't your ordinary dessert.

Something tells me you already knew that.

Little cakes to replicate the dresses they would be wearing.

Each with a tiny bouquet of flowers.

Now you can wear your dress and eat it too.

Really, they were quite simple to make.  Let me show you how.

Before baking the cakes, make the toppers and let dry.

You'll need to do this at least a day before so they are dry and will hold their shape.

Roll a piece of fondant and press a silicone mat with any design across the top.

Cut with mini heart cutter.  Set aside and let dry.

Next, it's time to bake the cakes.

I started with the Wilton mini wonder mold pan.

Spray the inside of each cavity with Baker's Joy so the cake doesn't stick.

Fill 2/3 with your favorite cake batter.

After baking, remove from pan and let cool.

Next, put a little dollop of buttercream frosting on a paper doily and place the cake on top.

Begin piping buttercream frosting around the bottom of the cake, using a Wilton #8 decorating tip.

Using your finger (wearing food safe gloves) or paintbrush, brush the frosting upward.

Continue piping layers and brushing until the cake is completely covered.

Using a knife, make a slit in the top of the mini cake.

Add the fondant heart.

Make mini roses out of fondant.

Add a bit of frosting to the center of the cake and place the roses.

Around the roses, add green leaves.

Now they're ready to walk down the aisle.

  6. What do you mean you weren't at the party????? I'm thinking you would have had sore shoulders from all the pats on the back or hugs you would have gotten.

These are gorgeous! Am sure NO ONE ever went to a wedding party and had anything so magnificent as these! Kudos!!!

When is the wedding? I'm thinking maybe December because of the red? We want to hear (and, of course see) every little detail.

    1. I know right? How could a party happen without me? LOL Thank you for loving the mini cakes and you are in for many, many posts about the parties before the wedding! Her wedding is in September, with the colors a deep red and cream. Haven't found the perfect formula for the red frosting yet! :)

  8. What an exciting time in your life! I have made the large dress cakes but not the little ones...they are perfect. I like the technique you used to get the ruffled effect...so creative.
