Without realizing, Valentine's Day is only a week away and I haven't posted my favorite Valentine Treat. I probably don't have to mention that it involves chocolate. And Red Velvet. Now here's the question...what does red velvet taste like. To me, if I close my eyes it just takes like chocolate. If my eyes are open, it taste like red velvet because it's red. Can anyone tell the difference between chocolate and red velvet if your eyes are closed? Please don't close your eyes until you see my cake pops.
Red Velvet Cake Pops
Decorated with a rose!
Using your favorite Red Velvet cake, make and bake the cake, crumble into fine pieces.
Add a little red velvet ganache and mix.
Form into balls and lay on saran wrap.
Poke cookie stick into each cake ball and dip into red velvet ganache. (Recipe Below)
Make a rose out of red fondant by cutting strips and wrapping in a circle, (scrunch the fondant as you go to make it ruffle)
Cut the piece off the bottom.
Make green leaves out of fondant with a plunger cutter.
Add a dot of frosting to stick the leaves on.
Add a little more frosting to hold the rose.
Now you're done~

This is the story of Red Velvet Truffles.
Once upon a time I had a little red box. Not just any red box, this red box had little compartments to hold little treats. The treats needed to be small to fit in the box, so I decided they needed to be rich. That's where the truffles come in. Truffles are so rich that most people can only eat one at a time. Notice I said most people. I'm pretty sure I could win a truffle eating contest. Anyway, making my favorite recipe for truffles, I added Red Velvet Emulsion to the chocolate. After letting it set, I scooped it out into little balls and rolled in cocoa powder. Placed the cocoa coated truffles in teeny tiny paper cups and into the box. They fit perfectly! Only they needed something. A red heart.

RED VELVET TRUFFLES
1/2 Cup Heavy Cream
12 oz. Semi-Sweet Chocolate (Cut into small pieces)
6 Tlbs. Unsalted Butter (Cut into small pieces)
2 Tsp. Red Velvet Emulsion
Cocoa Powder
Bring the cream to a simmer. Remove from heat and stir in chocolate, butter and emulsion until completely melted.
Pour the chocolate mixture into a shallow bowl.
Cool, cover and refrigerate until firm.
Line jelly roll pan with waxed paper and scoop across the surface of the truffle mixture to form a 1" ball. Repeat with the remaining truffle mixture.
Roll in Cocoa Powder

ReplyDeleteTo me, red velvet is chocolate-flavored, not necessarily chocolate. I can kind of tell when it's a cake, but with other red velvet treats, I usually can't tell the difference! :)
I'm still trying to decide what the taste really is. I just know I love it! :)
