The Partiologist: Rock 'n Roll!

Rock 'n Roll!

Before I get to the Rock 'n Roll part of this post, you've got to take a look at the girls in their poodle skirts, ready to rock around the clock .  Last year I made Mermaid Cakes for the birthday girls and this year it's Poodle Skirts!

Poodle Skirt Cakes

A close up of the fondant poodle I made from a mold.
Now for the Tute.  A Cute Tute.
I bought the girl cake toppers for the mini cakes.

Bake the cakes in the Wilton mini wonder mold pan.
Tie a scarf around each neck (gingham ribbon).  I also added a pony tail - then I took it out.  Then I added it again.  Then I took it out again.  I spent so much time on their hair, I didn't have time to do my own!  And ended up leaving there hair kind of poufy.
Okay, on to the cake - after they were baked, I flipped them out and let them cool.
Piped a layer of frosting around the cake with a big round tip and smoothed it out.
Rolled and cut pink fondant in a large round circle and placed it over the cake.
Now, you're probably wondering why I cut the bottom of the doll off.  (Oh, and by the way, sorry for the nude doll photo.)  After I had the skirt on the cake and put the doll in the top - it looked like her skirt was a hip hugger.  Poodle skirts DO NOT sit on the hips - they are at the waist.  Hips don't lie.
Using the No. 4 strip cutter, I made the doll's tube top out of black fondant.  Wrapped it around the doll and pressed it together in the back.

Now I needed something to hold the doll in the cake.  Hmmm, what could I use?  I had some big fat plastic straws in the straw drawer.  Pulled out a pink one (even though you don't see it, "I" knew it matched) cut it in half and stuck the end into the doll.  Measured to fit the skirt and trimmed away a little from the bottom.
Then I added the black poodle I made out of fondant.  ( I purchased this mold on Etsy years ago.)  Piped a black leash with #2 decorating tip.  Added the doll to the top.
I cut a narrow strip out of the black fondant and added a belt with a white square fondant buckle.
I promised rock and roll, and this is about as good as it gets when it comes to quick cupcakes!  I had until noon to design these cupcakes before they were hopping in the Chevy and heading for the Levee (oops, wrong era) Diner.
I'm not sure if they scream rock n roll, but I think they'll like them.
I was so happy I had ordered the set of mini music cookie cutters and finally had a chance to put them to use.  Because I was in such a hurry to get these done, I didn't take any photos during the process.  I'll provide the links at the bottom of the post and if you have questions - please don't be shy!
It's only Rock 'n Roll...
But I Like It!
