The Partiologist: Mardi Gras Mask Cookies!

Mardi Gras Mask Cookies!

Many...many years ago, I visited New Orleans, only never attended Mardi Gras.  I know I love the colors and to attend one of the parades would be totally awesome, I'm sure.  And a King Cake??  Count me in.  It was in New Orleans where I first sampled a beignet, okay, I sampled a few because they were that good.  And the music, I remember listening to great jazz while eating BBQ.  Oh, I also remember dripping BBQ sauce on my white blouse.
It's hard to eat and listen to good jazz without dripping.

Anyway, that's my experience with Mardi Gras, or my non experience.  I do have a little experience with cookies and that's where I'm going with this story.

Mardi Gras Mask Cookies!

Each mask is topped with embellished fondant.

Notice, they even have a place for you nose, just in case you want to wear it.

The mask cutter was perfect and came with a little cut out for the eye.

Roll and cut the mask, and then cut out the hole for the eyes.  Just eyeball it...  ha ha

Use Wilton decorating tips to lift up the piece for the nose before baking.

When they come out of the oven they will have a mask shape.

A few of the supplies needed, is a Wilton fondant mold.

Wilton fondant, green, purple and yellow (which I added Wilton buttercup food color to make it golden).

Makin's texture mats.

Roll each color of fondant into a thin piece.

Place a texture mat over the fondant and press with fondant roller.

Lift the texture mat off the fondant.

Cut a mask shape out of the fondant and place on the cookie.

Mark where to cut out for the eyes.

Remove fondant from the cookie and cut out the eyes and place back on the cookie.

Use a little Karo syrup to make the fondant stick.

Use other textures for the purple and green fondant.

Repeat the same step for these as the yellow.

Now it's time to add the decorations!

I just started making shapes out of the fondant by pressing into the mold.

Applied they in layers and they soon became Mardi Gras Masks!

Time to Pardi Gras!
