The Partiologist: Christmas Cookies in July

Christmas Cookies in July

What better way to cool things down than with a little snow.  With it being July, the only way to do that is with a snowflake cookie, or maybe I should say a Jumbo Snowflake Cookie?  Today I'm participating in a #christmascookiesinjuly cookie collaboration hosted by two of the greatest cookie creators ever... Callye (Sweet Sugarbelle) and Georganne (LilaLoa).  Be sure to check out all the blogs where you'll see all the other beautiful Christmas Cookie creations.

Jumbo Snowflake Cookie!

Let it snow!

At first I was planning to make a Christmas Cookie Platter, but then decided to go for the snowflake.  Why?  Well, I didn't know what I'd do with a platter of Christmas cookies.  My neighbors might think I was a little odd if I brought over a platter of Christmas cookies in the middle of July.  So that leaves me with only one option.  Eat them.  Which is why I made one jumbo cookie, so I wouldn't be sick at the end of the day from cookie overload.

It won't be long until I'm freezing again, so I'm enjoying this snowflake without the cold.

All the sparkle...Do you see the sparkle?

Now it's time to find out how to make it snow in July.

Start by rolling out a large circle of dough.  I dusted a little flour on top to help the cutter to come out clean.

Best to roll the dough on parchment paper using the cookie sheet you will be baking on.  This way you don't have to transfer the large cookie.  It will break...ask me how I know.

After baking the cookie, let it cool completely.

Fill the cutouts with royal icing.  Before the icing has set, sprinkle with coarse white sanding sugar.

Let the icing dry and then turn the cookie over and brush off the excess.

Using your silver paint of choice, paint the sugar to see if it would work.  It worked.

And that's when I decided to pipe a bead border around each cutout.  Let the border dry and then paint the bead border and sugar at the same time.

Next go back and flood the cookie with white royal icing.  Use a scribe to make sure the icing it right up next to the border.

Next I added dots of royal icing.

To make the snowflake shimmer, I added Roxy and Rich sparkle dust.

And then I packaged it up.  You know, it's all about the packaging right?  You can't make a pretty cookie and not package it up.

I really loved how it turned out with the ribbon.

Ready to be given away, so I don't eat it.

Now do you feel a little cooler?

A big THANK YOU to Sweet Sugarbelle and Lilaloa for making this #christmascookiesinjuly collaboration happen.  Don't forget to check out all the other Christmas Cookie inspiration!

Merry Christmas...in July!

  9. I too love this cookie and it's decoration. Absolutely done in love I'm sure.
Is it a secret to how you can punch out the cut-outs without disturbing the form to be baked? I can't imagine how it's done on such a huge cookie....miraculous I'm sure.
Thank you for sharing your talent...I'm off to check out the others.

    1. Thank you Lexy! I rolled my cookie dough right on the parchment paper I would be baking on, that way I didn't need to transfer the large cookie before baking. The cutter came with the cut outs, I dusted a little flour on the top and was able to get a clean cut.
